As far as we know, there are no studies in which women with carefully-diagnosed PMDD were followed through their late reproductive years in order to determine how they are affected by menopause. However, in clinical practice we have observed that many (though not all) women with PMDD experience a worsening of their symptoms during the increased hormone fluctuations that occur in the lead-up to menopause. In many cases, evidence-based treatments for PMDD such as SSRIs, oral contraceptives, or GnRH agonists (usually with long-term hormone addback) can be safely used to treat PMDD in the menopause transition.ย

Talk with a doctor who is knowledgeable about both PMDD and the menopause transition to develop a plan for treating your PMDD through the menopause transition.โ€
