At this time, there is no genetic test for PMDD. While there was a recent exciting study showing altered patterns of gene expression in PMDD relative to controls, there is currently no available biological test that can differentiate women with PMDD from controls. Further, there are currently no studies supporting the use of genetic testing for the selection of medications to treat PMDD. PMDD can only be diagnosed using daily symptom ratings to identify the cyclical symptom pattern.
