Autoimmune conditions are those in which the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues in the body. There is no evidence that this is the case in PMDD. The existing evidence points other places, like altered serotonin in the brain during the luteal phase, abnormal responses to normal changes in the metabolites of progesterone (allo), differences in brain structure and function, differences in gene expression, and, to some extent, differences in experiences of stress.
