Will having a Total Hysterectomy / BSO affect my other pelvic organs?

No. Not during a routine hysterectomy/oophorectomy surgery.

However, adhesions (bands of fibrous tissue spanning two or more organs) can occur and cause symptoms in some people, and there can be a relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. It is important to follow your surgeons guidelines to avoid stressing your pelvic floor in the post-op recovery period.

Visit www.iapmd.org/surgery for lots of evidence-based information and resources for those considering, going through or recovering from surgery for PMDD/PME.
