Unfortunately, there is insufficient evidence for RTT’s effectiveness for PMDD, so it is not evidence-based and not recommended for PMDD. There are no published studies on RTT in PubMed, the U.S. hub for peer-reviewed biomedical research. RTT has never been scientifically studied as a treatment for PMDD, so we don’t know whether or not it works.
Other forms of psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), have been rigorously studied for mood disorders including PMDD. Some studies find that CBT is helpful for reducing the severity of PMDD symptoms, whereas more general or supportive psychotherapies are probably less helpful.
