This is a new and growing area of evidence-based research. While no definitive subtypes are currently noted in the DSM-5, early research findings are indicating that there may be PMDD subtypes:

  1. Individuals experiencing moderate symptoms in the premenstrual week of the menstrual cycle

  2. Individuals experiencing severe symptoms for the full two weeks of the luteal phase

  3. Individuals experiencing severe symptoms in the premenstrual week with symptoms slow to resolve in the follicular phase (Credit)
